Hello friends,
I told you that I was looking forward to the next trip. Well, it took me to one of the northern European countries with many deer. Do you recognize it? .... It was Sweden. As usual, I didn’t travel alone but with Mrs. Staneva and Mrs. Katsarova - English teachers. We visited the Swedish partner school Engelbrektskolan, which is located in Borȧs. It's as big as our school with over 800 children. Students start school at 8.00 a.m and finish at 1.30 pm.
The hosts were very hospitable. First they invited us into their aula. It was a big room like our school hall but with amphitheater seats, a large screen at the front and very good sound. Then a few students showed us around the school. I walked along their corridors decorated with paintings on the walls related to the school subject. There were separate places where students could relax, talk or surf the Net. I managed to enter their classrooms. Did you know that they sat at high desks, they were allowed to be barefoot (only with socks) and they wrote with a pencil in their notebooks. There were rooms with toys, a place for recreation and a playground in the yard for younger students. Older students did not bring textbooks and bags, but only tablets and they had lockers. Surprisingly, there was not a school bell. They had very well-equipped classrooms:
• a Music room with musical instruments
• a Home economics room with all tools and machines
• a room with sewing machines and all supplies and materials for sewing and knitting.
I visited one craft lesson. Students were learning to sew on a sewing machine even a garment and to knit different things and gloves. Their calendar was sewn on a machine from different fabrics.
There were:
In the meantime, the teachers took part in learning activities connected with teaching a foreign language. There were lectures, lessons with students on direct method language teaching, practice sessions, games and other methods and approaches.
Our hosts organized a school night on Swedish culture.
In short, my visit to Sweden was exciting and memorable. I can’t wait to go on the next trip.
